The Sigma Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., located in Ann Arbor, Michigan, was chartered to serve the community in and around the University of Michigan, as well as the greater Ann Arbor area. Omega Psi Phi, founded in 1911 at Howard University, is one of the oldest African American fraternities, and the Sigma Rho Chapter plays a vital role in continuing its legacy of community service, brotherhood, and academic achievement.


Early Years
The Sigma Rho Chapter was chartered December 19th, 1964. The chapter chartered during a period of significant social and political change in the United States, particularly in terms of civil rights and educational opportunities for African Americans. Ann Arbor Michigan, had a small but growing population of African American during this time, and Sigma Rho provided support, camaraderie, and leadership to the residents and the students of the PHI Chapter (University of Michigan), and the THETA GAMMA Chapter (Eastern Michigan University) located in Ann Arbor, and Ypsilanti Michigan respectively.
Mission and Vision
The Sigma Rho Chapter's mission aligns with that of the international organization: promoting manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. The chapter has always been dedicated to fostering scholarship, offering mentorship to younger African American men, and engaging in various social and philanthropic activities.
